Praha: RILSA, 2012. 65 pp. - ISBN 978-80-7416-107-0

An integral part of most European countries, including the Czech Republic, is the incoming immigrant population with a significant proportion of their children. Already in 2006, 15% children with a migration background studied in primary schools at the level of EU-15 and their number has multiplied over the years. In the Czech Republic 14 315 children of foreigners attend primary schools during the school year 2011/2012, including children of foreigners from third countries account for 70%. This publication deals with the evaluation of integration and educational success of these children of foreigners from third countries at the age of compulsory school attendance in the Czech educational institutions. A source of knowledge consists of two basic sources; international OECD PISA survey (questionnaire survey 2009 in 290 selected Czech schools - children of foreigners from third countries are selected from total set of surveyed pupils), and structured interviews with representatives of primary schools with the highest proportion of children of foreigners from third countries in Prague (implementation in 2011). This publication is focused on the analysis of family and material background, issues relating to pre-school and school education, merit parameters and out-of-school activities of these children. The assessment of the Czech school and teachers through the eyes of children of foreign origin, their plans and prospects later in life are very incentive. Structured interviews complement the survey and update it in confrontation with the current situation. The publication contains recommendations for improving of the integration process of children from third countries and the final summary of findings.
