New forms of child day care in the Czech Republic
Prague: RILSA, 2014. 256 pp. - ISBN 978-80-7416-203-9

The current monograph is the final outcome of the project “New forms of child day care in the Czech Republic,” carried out between April 2012 and April 2014, the aim of which was to generate proposals for a broadening of the offer of non-family day care services in the Czech Republic on the basis of best practice examples from France. The publication introduces key conceptual aspects of the Czech and French systems of child day care, the legal forms available for the operation of different types of day care services, and the particular types of both collective and individual care services in both countries. It presents an analysis of the sample survey “Care 2013,” which examined the opinions and experiences of mothers with young children, and of the qualitative research activities, which primarily comprised expert interviews and focus groups. The research findings serve as basis for proposals of desirable innovations of the Czech system of collective and individual child day care services. Proposals pertaining to collective care services include both innovations feasible under the current legal conditions, deriving from Czech and French best practice examples, and changes demanding a transformation of legal norms, dealing in particular with the questions of quality standards and control and service register. The proposed innovations in the field of individual care target a further professionalization and availability of individual care services in the Czech Republic.
