The continuous monitoring of changes in foreign pension schemes is carried out upon the assignment of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic. The aim of the task assigned is to monitor current trends in pension scheme development abroad and nature of constituent measures in this area and to process information on changes detected. Attention is primarily paid to the measures of the basic pillar, but also to other measures if they are significant in the given country (e.g. employee pensions).
Pension schemes are currently coping with serious problems that are mostly ascribed to the unfavourable demographic development (population ageing, life expectancy prolongation and low birth-rate). As a consequence, the need to secure their long-term sustainability compels to review the existing old-age security system with regard to the expected demographic and economic situation in the near as well as distant future. In most of the developed countries, modifications or even radical reforms of pension schemes are being in process. To resolve future development of the pension scheme is a crucial task in the Czech Republic as well, therefore monitoring of changes in the foreign pension schemes is of considerable importance and the information acquired can be inspiring for preparation of measures in this regard.
