The main objective of the project was to obtain data on the current functioning of the facilities for children requiring immediate help (ZDVOP). The findings should be an important part of bases for legal changes in determining conditions and requirements for establishment and activities of ZDVOP as well as forms of their financial support provided by the state. With regard to the current legislation concerning this type of facilities and the relevant proposals for changes in the upcoming amendment to the social and legal protection of children, the project using qualitative and quantitative research methods focused on the following issues: reasons for children stay in ZDVOP, characteristics of these children (especially age, family situation, health status), length of their stay in ZDVOP and reasons for their release, manner and extent of the support provided to the child and his family by ZDVOP (counseling, psychological support, social work, health care), cooperation with the authorities responsible for the social and legal protection of children and other partners, last but not least the economic issues of the operation of ZDVOP were described. The findings proved that some standardization and a clearer legal definition of the role and services of ZDVOP are advisable.
