The main objective of the project is to compare invalidity and the development thereof in the Czech Republic with the situation in selected EU countries. Particular attention is devoted to those countries which have adopted multi-degree invalidity systems and invalidity pensions. The project presents a detailed description of the concept of invalidity and invalidity pensions in selected European countries, the factual and legal conditions prevailing with respect both to the recognition of individual degrees of invalidity and the granting of invalidity pensions. The development of invalidity is documented by means of statistics on newly-awarded invalidity pensions in individual countries for the years 2012 and 2013. In addition, attention is devoted to temporary and permanent entitlement to the invalidity pension, to the issue of the verification of health status, to the duration of invalidity and the relevant consequences, to the medical causes of invalidity and to the various age-related aspects of invalidity - the age at which the respective invalidity pension is most frequently granted.
