The aim of the project was to compare measures at the national level in five European countries leading to the improved quality of life of older workers and at their remaining longer in the labour market; one of the countries compared consisted of the Czech Republic. The project focused primarily on measures that 1) promote the good health of workers throughout their entire working careers and 2) allow older workers to balance their work with the need to care for ageing parents or other family members. The national studies included the compilation of an overview of existing measures concerned with improving the conditions leading to the extension of the working opportunities of older persons. The various measures included both those implemented at the government level and those measures which resulted from the initiatives of social partners. The project included the development of two case studies conducted in companies that have already introduced innovative tools in this area. The case studies were based principally on interviews conducted with representatives from HR management, trade unions active within the company and selected employees. Moreover, part of the study consisted of evaluating the effectiveness of the respective measures at both the national and corporate levels.
